Near the well of Bir al-Sahaba are the ruins of Ansena, an ancient Christian city on the East bank of the Nile that was abandoned around the 10th century. Ansena is known in Coptic history for the many martyrs in the Roman period. Since the Holy Family went to both Bir al-Sahaba and Dayr Abu Hinnis they must have past through this area as well.
