Bahnassa is 8 km. southeast of Dayr al-Garnus. Once the seat of a bishop, with monasteries and convents housing thousands of monks and nuns. It is said that there have been 366 churches in this area. The only thing remaining for us to see is the Holy Family well and tree in the middle of a desolate Muslim cemetery. According to tradition, when Jesus played near the well, he planted a piece of wood in the soil that grew into a fruitful tree. Archeologists found in recent years the remains of an ancient church.

A villager catching a bucket to lift water from the well of “sabaa bannat” or ”the 7 girls” at Al-Bahnassa. This is a local Muslim pilgrimage location that looks very similar to the Holy Family well in Al-Bahnassa.
